Historical Background

The monks who inhabited the Cisterican Monastery Alba Dominorum, founded around 1149, were already aware of the salubrious effects of the local environment, which eventually gave rise to today’s spar at Bad Herrenalb. The hydrological and geological characteristics of the area have particularly invigorating effects that are still felt today.

In the 18th century, the first hydropathic spas and santoriums were established. The Hummelsburg Sanatorium was founded shortly before 1900 by Dr. Edgar Hummel. It is the second of its kind in Herrenalb.

Sustainability at the next level: The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA takes the next step towards future-oriented, meaningful living and working environments with CIRCULAR LIVING – a so far unique hotel room concept that convinces with the highest standard for eco-effectiveness.

Inspired by the Black Forest as well as the place of power Bad Herrenalb, three room designs for all-around healthy sleeping and living worlds were created. The implementation is based on a completely new level of quality according to the rules of nature and circular economy. A design to preserve. Real, honest materials are used in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle® design principles.

Freigeist, Waldklang and Falkenstein – Our three prototype rooms, which were realized at the end of December 2022, each open up their very own themed world and form the starting point for further Circular Living rooms.

SPRING 2021

Enlargement of the SPA outdoor area with a new panoramic sun terrace with special relaxation loungers.

APRIL-JULY 2020

The SCHWARZWALD comes to the CAMPUS: a playful interpretation of the power of the forest results in near-natural floor coverings and creative colour concepts with blackberry tones, bright sunny yellow and classic green. The new centrepiece is a 2.30 m diameter tree disc as a food station with organic snacks and smoothies for healthy energy breaks.

At the same time, the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA snack garden, with a 25 m long berry road, wildflower meadow, raised beds and upcycling impulses, will be created. A comprehensive biodiversity approach is integrated – including its own shelters for lizards, hedgehogs, bees, birds and insects – giving it the nickname “species garden”.

MAY 2018

The apartments in the outbuilding have been extensively renovated.

SEPTEMBER 2017

Since September, the house and hotel have a new owner. The former Managing Director Stephan Bode buys the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA and from then on independently as owner, continues the entrepreneurial fortunes of the four-star superior hotel.

MAY 2013

“Ruland’s Thermenhotel” becomes the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA with new content and a new atmosphere. The hotel lobby is spruced up, the sauna, massage, cosmetics and fitness areas enlarged and the hotel façade is now a fresh, radiant white. Additionally, all areas of the hotel were arranged to be ecologically sustainable, using as much regional and the best possible quality material.

AUGUST 2011

The Ruland Fachklinik Falkenburg is taken over by the ACURA Clinics along with the Ruland Thermenhotel.

JULY 2007

After 18-months of construction the new banquet and meeting area is opened in one of the most modern in the northern Black Forest.

2006

Modernization of the large wellness area with thermal whirlpool, bio-sauna and Finnish sauna, steam bath and fitness room.

JANUARY 1999

The 4-star Superior Hotel on the high plateau above the Bad Herrenalb railway station opens under the name “Ruland’s Thermenhotel”, at the same time as the Fachklinik Falkenburg, which focuses on the areas of orthopedics, cardiology and neurology.

1997

The Fachklinik Falkenburg, a specialized, clinic was opened.

1973

In 1973 Gisela and Hans Ruland founded their first rehabilitative clinic in nearby Waldbronn. True to the credo “Rehabilitation instead of Retirement” they continued to develop the company and found the ideal conditions for successfully accompanying people on the way to full recovery in Bad Herrenalb on the site of the former Sanatoriums Hummelsburg. The foundation stone for today’s SRH Health Centre (formerly Fachklinik Falkenburg) with the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA was laid.
